ASBMR Webinar Series: Dilemmas in Clinical Practice: Osteoporosis in Transplantation
Transplantation-associated bone loss develops for multiple reasons after organ transplantation. In most cases end-stage organ failure and the treatments used to control the failure cause adverse skeletal effects before transplantation. Even though successful organ transplantation corrects organ dysfunction, post-transplantation immunosuppression often leads to further bone loss and fractures. Clinical trials give some insight into the effects of antiresorptive and anabolic therapies on bone loss after transplantation, but data is limited. Management of transplantation-associated bone loss will be discussed.

As a result of this webinar, attendees will be able to:
1) Summarize the pathophysiology of transplantation-associated bone loss.
2) Discuss clinical trials of osteoporosis treatment in transplantation patients.
3) Present expert opinion on treatment of patients with transplantation osteoporosis.
