Law Enforcement and Advanced Driving systems: Effects on Road Safety (LEADERS)
Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of police line of duty injuries and deaths. These crashes are mainly attributed to the use of in-vehicle technologies and multi-tasking while driving as police officers are human beings, bound by the same physical and mental limitations as civilians. In this webinar, three experts will present their recent research in the area of in-vehicle technology use and multitasking while driving for police officers. Maryam Zahabi will discuss the findings of her recent driving simulation studies, naturistic observations, and qualitative evaluations of police in-vehicle technology use and advanced driving assistance system needs. Tammy Trimble will describe the results from the CAMP project focused on interactions between public safety officials and automated driving system-equipped vehicles. Stephen James will discuss two pivotal problems facing the police profession today: chronic shift-work related to fatigue and dangerous distracted driving conditions.
